Getting around Sydney

Check the destination, transfer location and estimated transportation time first; the airport and urban areas may require different tickets.

SYDNEY · TERMINALS AND T8

Plan Sydney airport travel with the terminal and access fee in mind

Your terminal, payment method and onward destination affect the airport journey. Check the complete trip rather than comparing a city train fare with an airport transfer price.

Airport train travel includes a station fee

Transport for NSW identifies the T8 Airport & South Line as serving the Domestic and International airport stations. An airport station access fee is added to the train fare. Use the official trip planner for the complete journey and current total instead of budgeting only the regular rail fare.

Confirm whether you need a terminal transfer

Sydney Airport separates T1 International from the T2/T3 Domestic precinct. Airport Link connects the airport stations; Transport for NSW also lists route 420 between the terminal areas. Check your airline's terminal and transfer arrangements before assuming a connecting flight is in the same building.

Choose a payment method before boarding

Transport for NSW lists Opal, eligible contactless cards or digital wallets, and Opal single tickets. For contactless travel, each passenger needs their own payment card; tap on and off using that payment method. Fare concessions and airport station fees have separate conditions, so check eligibility rather than assuming every bank card receives a discounted fare.

Transport topics checked Transport topics only. Consult live service notices and the official fare planner; airport access charges and concession eligibility can change.
NATIONAL PRACTICAL INFORMATION · Australia

Australian money, tipping and arrival essentials

These are Australia-wide practical notes. Use the city-specific transport guide above for local ticketing; a national currency does not mean a shared transport fare.

Budget in Australian dollars (AUD)

Australia uses Australian dollars. Reserve Bank banknotes have face values of $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100; previous Reserve Bank issues remain legal tender. Tourism Australia advises carrying a little cash as well as cards. Ask your card issuer about foreign-transaction fees; a currency conversion estimate is not the amount your provider must charge.

Tipping is a choice, not an automatic obligation

Tourism Australia describes tipping as optional and not expected in most venues. Decide whether you want to reward good service rather than treating a suggested tip as compulsory. Check the actual bill and any disclosed payment surcharge before approving a card transaction.

Check what must be declared before arrival

Australia's agriculture department identifies food, animal and plant material, and contaminated footwear or outdoor equipment as possible biosecurity risks. Clean footwear and equipment before travel and declare relevant goods and farm contact truthfully. Declaring an item allows inspection; it does not guarantee the item will be admitted. Check the current official traveller alerts for your goods.

National topics checked Selected national practical topics checked on the date shown, not a complete customs, visa or tax guide. Admission decisions and payment terms remain with the relevant authority or provider.

Why can a city have two different UTC offsets?

The time zone rules for Sydney have adjusted UTC offsets this year; the common reason is seasonal daylight saving time schedules. Turning the clock forward will skip a period of time, turning it slow will repeat a period of time. Only the rules in effect at that time apply for each date, so time differences with other cities may also change.

Back 60 minutes2026/04/0503:00 → 02:00AEDT UTC+11:00 → AEST UTC+10:00
Forward 60 minutes2026/10/0402:00 → 03:00AEST UTC+10:00 → AEDT UTC+11:00

The above list is all Sydney local time. The clock face time that is skipped when moving forward cannot be reserved; the time that is repeated when moving back needs to be selected for the first or second time.

THE SYDNEY TIME GUIDE

Understand time in Sydney.
Make every connection easier.

A guide to time zones, daylight and international meetings for daily life and travel in Sydney.

What time zone does Sydney use?

Sydney is located in Australia, using the Australia/Sydney time zone. The current local time corresponds to UTC+11:00. A time zone name represents a set of time rules that apply to a date, and is not exactly the same as "fixed plus or minus a few hours." When arranging cross-border contact, first confirm the city, date and time zone, and then check the date of the other party.

The phone usually displays the time zone set by the device. Even if its clock is perfectly correct, it won't automatically know which city your invitation is based on. Writing "Sydney local time" into the meeting invitation and using calendar events that include the time zone can reduce errors in mental arithmetic between both parties.

Choosing a city is more reliable than just remembering the time difference.

Select Sydney in the converter so it can apply the rules for Australia/Sydney. If your plans cross a clock change, check that recurring meetings still take place at the times everyone expects.

Time zone and clock changes in 2026

This city changes its clocks this year. The table shows the local clock readings immediately before and after each transition. Moving clocks forward skips local times; moving them back repeats local times.

Clock changes in Sydney, 2026
Local dateClock changeUTC offset after change
2026/04/0503:00 → 02:00UTC+10:00
2026/10/0402:00 → 03:00UTC+11:00

If your flight, duty or activity happens to be in the early morning of the day when the clock is adjusted, please confirm which clock time is provided by the organizer. The converter on this page will indicate a time that does not exist; if the same time appears twice, it will provide two UTC offsets for you to choose from. Meeting exports are recorded with clear UTC start and end times.

Time difference between Sydney and Taipei

Sydney is currently 3 h ahead of Taipei. Use the converter below for another date.

Compare the dates as well as the times. One city may already be in the next day while another is still in the previous evening. Include the city and date when suggesting a call, for example, Friday at 10:00 in New York. The city comparison shows both local dates, and the converter handles changes of date automatically.

Finding a time for international calls

Add the cities involved in your meeting to compare up to six locations. Each row shows the local date, estimated day and night, and a reference working period of 09:00–18:00 that excludes regional weekends. Yellow and blue indicate daylight and night; the thin bar below marks working hours. Daylight alone does not mean someone is available.

Start with the full-day view to find overlapping availability, then zoom in to a 12-, 6- or 3-hour range. Hover to preview local times and click to select the meeting start. The meeting duration is shown too, so you can check when it ends. On a phone, swipe the timeline horizontally or use the slider below.

With participants across Asia, Europe and the Americas, a comfortable time for everyone may not exist. Consider shorter meetings, sharing materials beforehand, or rotating early and late calls. The planner shows time differences clearly, but participants should still confirm their calendars and work schedules.

Working days, office hours and travel arrangements

This page compares a standard working day of 09:00–18:00, excluding regional weekends defined by Unicode CLDR. This is a planning aid: actual business hours, public holidays and personal schedules may differ. Check the organization’s published hours before contacting it.

Flight and transportation tickets are usually marked with the local time of departure and arrival. Don’t just subtract the time on the ticket to estimate travel time; consider both the date and time zone. When arranging airport pick-up, transfer and accommodation check-in, allow for luggage collection, immigration and urban transportation.

Daylight from morning to night

The header shows AI-generated city scenes for morning, daytime, sunset and night. The scene changes with the city’s estimated daylight, rather than the time at your location. These illustrations are not a live camera feed, and architectural details may differ from the real city. The sun’s position, season and latitude determine the scene shown.

There is twilight after sunset. When arranging a walk or city photography, you can think of before and after sunset as a time to observe the light; cloud cover, terrain, architecture and viewing direction will also affect the actual brightness of the sky you see. This page shows estimates of city reference coordinates, suitable for general itinerary planning.

Understanding the weather panel

The weather block uses recent observations from nearby stations and lists the station code, distance and observation time. It reflects conditions where the measuring station is located and does not mean that the entire city has the same weather in every neighborhood. The page does not extend the observation data into future hourly forecasts.

When the data is temporarily unavailable or expired, temperature and meteorological values will be displayed as not provided. Clocks, time conversions, and astronomical estimates still work. If you need rainfall trends, disaster warnings or hour-by-hour forecasts before going out, please also check the local weather agency.

Data source and update method

The live clock synchronizes with the CityTimeDate server when the page opens and periodically in the background. Both server and browser use IANA 2026e time zone data, avoiding differences caused by older device or PHP rules. The converter supports 1900–2100. The database still needs updating when authorities change future rules.

Astronomical times are calculated with SunCalc. Nearby weather observations come from NOAA / Aviation Weather Center. The reference-check date and any city identity caveats are displayed above. GeoNames data is used under CC BY 4.0. Geographic reference matching does not verify every travel fact or the buildings shown in an illustration. The hero image is an illustrative city scene, not live weather. Sunrise and sunset are estimates for the reference coordinates; models, terrain and atmospheric conditions affect the actual view.
